LBF International Excellence
Awards 2016: China dominates
As previously reported the London Book Fair (LBF) runs this week from 12 – 14 April. The LBF International
Excellence Awards will be presented on 12 April. The awards, eligible to
companies whose main work is outside of the UK, celebrate international
excellence in the book industry, and cover the whole scope of international
publishing, including academic and scholarly publishing, children’s publishing,
literary translation and digital innovation, and not forgetting book selling and
literary festivals. In each award category the judging panel was made up of
experts in that sector. China leads the
shortlist with five nominations, and is also sponsoring an award, the China
Publishing & Media Journal Educational Learning Resources Award
Jacks Thomas, Director, LBF,
said: “Now in their third year, the LBF International Excellence Awards are a
one-stop showcase for some fantastic innovation and sheer determination to get
books and content into the hands of consumers in a variety of classical and
creative ways. Just looking at the shortlists makes me want to shout a big
three cheers for the global publishing industry and all who work in it!”

Call for submissions: the
inaugural Hong Kong History Book Prize
The Hong Kong History Book Prize
is a new award for an unpublished manuscript.
Sponsored by the Sir Lindsay and Lady May Ride Memorial Fund and administered
by the Asian Review of Books, the Prize has the short-term objective to
catalyse publication of new volumes in the Royal Asiatic Society's series on
the history of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta, and the longer-term
objective of inspiring writers to turn their attention to the region.The winning submission will
receive a publication contract plus a HK$5000 advance against royalties or
other remuneration. The Sir Lindsay and Lady May Ride Memorial Fund also
provides a publication grant to the selected publisher. Submissions are open
immediately and will close on 1 August. The inaugural prize will be awarded in November.
